Legends return Saturday for 10:30am SodTalk at the Sod Cemetery

Florida State’s Sod Cemetery celebrates its 55th season and SodTalk returns for its 4th season for the Seminoles’ Home Opener vs. North Carolina State at 10:30am on Saturday September 23rd.

Seminole SodTalk Legends will be a quarterback who had the best senior season in FSU history and a consensus All American National Champion offensive guard.

In 1989 Peter Tom Willis, from Morris, Alabama, set 15 FSU single season records, including 3,124 passing yards on 211 completions, six 300-yard passing games, and six TD passes in a single game. In his first career start as a junior, he lead the Seminoles to a 59-0 win at South Carolina. In his senior season as the starter at quarterback, he lead the Seminoles to a 10-2 record, including wins over Auburn, Miami, and Florida, capped with a 41-17 Fiesta Bowl victory over Nebraska and national ranking of #2. He was a four year veteran in the NFL with the Chicago Bears.

Jason Whitaker, from Panama City, was a four year starter at offensive guard from 1996-99, an All American in 1998 and an NCAA Consensus All American in 1999 as his Seminole team was a wire-to wire #1 National Champion. Over his four playing years, FSU compiled a record of 44-4, with final national rankings of #3, #3, #3 and #1.

The SodTalk Legends will be available for autographs at 10am and will talk to Seminole fans at 10:30am at the Sod Cemetery Plaza , located between the Bobby Bowden Statue and Dick Howser Stadium, 90 minutes before Kickoff.
