The War Chant Weekly: March 10th

IT'S MARCH: LET THE MADNESS BEGIN

FSU Men’s Basketball was picked to finish 18th in the ACC entering the season. After a loss to Wake Forest on January 17th left the Noles at 7-11 overall and still searching for their first conference win, those predictions seemed on track.

But this team had other plans.

The Noles have since flipped the script, winning 10 of their last 13 games and emerging as one of the hottest teams in the nation. Team chemistry is at a season high, and the momentum is real.

They went to Pittsburgh on Wednesday and fended off the Panthers’ second-half comeback attempt. The Noles then played at the Tuck on Saturday in the last regular season game. Senior night versus SMU. The Seminoles won 91-78. Senior Chauncey Wiggins had a career high 31 points. FSU also earned redemption, avenging an earlier close loss to SMU in conference play.

The Seminoles finished 10-8 in the ACC and 17-14 on the year. This team set the record for most threes made in a season in program history. They also tied a program record for most consecutive acc road wins (5).

They are the 8th seed in the acc tournament and play California Wednesday night at 7:00 PM in Charlotte. The winner faces 1 seeded Duke in the quarterfinals. No one wants to play this FSU team right now. Momentum is at an all-time high as they aim to build their own legacy and prove they belong among the nation’s best.

TEEING IT UP WITH FSU GOLF

As Florida State men’s golf prepares for its home invitational this weekend, senior Jack Bigham enters the final stretch of his collegiate career with confidence. Maggie Allen, a member of the Student Boosters PR team, had the opportunity to sit down with Bigham ahead of the tournament. Since coming to Tallahassee from England four years ago, Bigham says FSU’s national championship runs have been the defining highlight of his career.

“My freshman year we lost in the semis, and my sophomore year we made it all the way to the finals,” Bigham said. He adds that he’s loved his time at FSU thanks to the warm weather, supportive coaches, and the five teammates he lives with.

Pre-Round Routine:

Bigham keeps his pre-round routine simple, always using the same FSU ball marker before stepping onto the course. This season, his goals are straightforward.

“Get a college win under my belt and then have the best national championship run possible.”

He believes the Seminoles have the potential to do something special in his final season.

“We have the ability to win a national championship. If we keep working hard, I believe we can achieve anything.”

After a motivating trip to the Cabo Classic in Mexico, Bigham says the team is even more eager to perform when they return home.

As the season continues, Bigham says he’s ready to embrace whatever comes next.

“These last four years have been amazing, but I’m ready to start the next chapter and take what I’ve learned from FSU into the pros.”

One fun surprise about Bigham: he never wears a hat.

“I’m the only one on the team that doesn’t,” he says.

With his final home invitational approaching, Bigham is looking forward to competing in front of the home crowd.

“It’s always fun being able to play at home and in front of a lot of fans cheering you on.”

If you’re still in town this weekend, stop by the course and support the Seminoles as they compete on their home turf, starting this Sunday.
